Chapter 11: Audiovisual Technologies

Audio and visual technologies have been used in classrooms for many years. Some traditional audio and visual technologies are still used today, such as audiocassettes. Audiocassettes have been around for a long time because they are affordable and easy- to-use by all ages. For these reasons I would use audiocassettes in my classroom. Also, with its easy-to-use features students are able to read along to books or just listen and answer questions along the way and after the readings are done. For traditional visual technologies we are still involved with using broadcast video. As a teacher I would continue to use broadcasting video because it is educational television that allows the students to learn in a fun manner and watch TV while learning at the same time.

Although these technologies still continue to work great there are more advanced emerging technologies that can be used in the classroom. Such as for audio we can use internet radio. In my classroom internet radio would be used to have students listen to on-line radio stations that allow them to learn about social studies, science, current events, and different languages. Visual technology also has the emerging of the DVDs. This has come to great help in the classroom. DVDs are easily accessible to data and easily manipulated. Teachers can replay scenes and go directly to where they need to be.
